Position Overview:

  • To undertake the development of software solutions in accordance with agreed release plans and associated solution designs for the business applications they have accountability for within their delivery team
  • Create high quality code, configurations and customization - developed, fully tested and deployed in accordance with requirements and acceptance criteria
  • To work with solution architects and business analysts to ensure end user functionality and workable solution is achieved
  • Administering third party applications, users, and system resources
  • To provide end user support by addressing production issues/incidents

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership on a team delivering software solutions, product releases, and operational tasks
  • Collaborate with other delivery teams to identify and repair technical issues that spans across teams
  • Evaluate team's work processes and best practices and implement changes to optimize the software delivery model
  • Drive the implementation of the technical strategy from architectural authority
  • Mentor and coach junior team members and maintain high team morale
  • Develop detailed designs and technical specifications
  • Develop, configures and tests software to meet user requirements and associated acceptance criteria, performance criteria and non-functional requirements in line with quality standards
  • Ensure that test plans and test cases are created to meet quality, functional and non-functional requirements
  • Undertake qualitative peer reviews of the work activities of other development team members

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong work experience of HTML, XML, Java, JavaScript (Angular/Node.js), ORM frameworks (Spring, iBatis/Mybatis), Web services (REST) and web communication protocols
  • Thorough understanding on basic cloud technologies includes AWS basic services (EC2, RDS, SQC/SNS – possibly some Lambda and API Gateway)
  • Good understanding of RDBMS concepts, SQL querying experience
  • Infrastructure as code (i.e: Ansible, AWS Cloud Formation, YAML Kubernetes configurations), Redhat Openshift, DevOps platform and familiarity with test frameworks.
  • Exposure to Postgress and Aurora databases is a plus
  • Experience with design and implementation of enterprise-level application and integration architectures using a RESTful approach
  • Advanced understanding of agile practices, techniques and tools; sound understanding of the agile development lifecycle particularly continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
  • Good understanding of testing methods and evidence of building solutions in way which allow them to be tested continuously as code is added or changed (DevOps)
  • Good understanding of Microservices

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field; equivalent work experience may be considered
  • Minimum 10+ years of design, coding and testing of the specific technologies/applications they are accountable for delivering workable software
  • Excellent team management and stakeholder management skills to deliver solutions in a critical business operational environment
  • Proven leading teams of technical experts in the science domain and preferably business knowledge
  • Demonstrable directly-related experience of software development in a Scientific Research & Development environment
  • Strong planning and solution delivery skills to enable sound scoping and sprint planning skills
  • Detailed understanding of the technical architecture and software components that make up the applications under their control
  • Established team working skills applied to both internal development, supplier augmentation and third party supplier services
  • Confident communication skills and ability to work with end users
  • Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities: Proven capability to build a solid working relationship with developers, Analysts and testing team within and across the delivery teams and contribute to the success of the product delivery and support.
