Position Overview:
  • The Senior Network Engineer configures, maintains and upgrades Objective computer network systems in use at the Firm. They are involved in long range planning of upgrades and deployment of computer systems.
  • This position entails project planning, coordination and execution. Self-reliant in technical endeavors, requires minimal guidance from management. Ability to work well under pressure, facilitate solutions and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Configures, manages and upgrades NetApp, CommVault, Active Directory Administration,VMware ESXi
  • 5.5 and 6 virtualization environments firm-wide
  • Production, support, and deployment of new projects for storage and Virtual
  • Environment needs
  • Collect storage requirements and architect an appropriate highly available design, as well as troubleshoot performance problems in an existing NetApp storage array
  • Provide production support for the break fix and performance issues on storage and server infrastructure. Requires good knowledge of blade infrastructure for server hardware such as Cisco UCS and Client blades. Implementation Support - Design, plan, and set up storage in a Windows NetApp SAN environment (disk layout, RAID levels, etc.) to ensure performance and data availability
  • Configures, maintains and upgrades firm wide Netapp and VMware capabilities including all applicable applications used for both storage and backup requirements
  • Takes a proactive approach to resolving network hardware and software problems quickly and efficiently with minimal impact to end-users in the Firm
  • Coordinates on-going assigned projects and problem-solving activities that affect the Firm's Enterprise storage and server infrastructure with other appropriate Information Technology Services personnel
  • Assist with other network engineering functions as required by Network Services Manager
  • Follows proper change control processes when making changes to any infrastructure equipment or services
  • Ensure that members of their team are cross trained on all critical support tasks
  • Good documentation of all tasks and procedures
  • Lead Technical Analyst:
    • Serve as Lead Technical Analyst on complex or difficult projects relating to NetApp, and a VMware hypervisor environment
    • Attain and maintain expert competency in the area of Network design and server utilization
    • Serve as 2nd and 3rd level help desk support for problems related to the desktop and server system
  • Network Operations:
    • Serves as designated contact and liaison with third party providers of applications and services
    • Configures, maintains and upgrades NetApp C-mode, NetApp 7 mode, NetApp snap mirror and snapshots, VMware, Windows and other servers, as well as other network components such as routers and switches that comprise the Firm's Enterprise Network
    • Performs storage and server capacity planning, monitoring, and tuning of the infrastructure on a constant basis to improve the performance and responsiveness of the Firm's Enterprise compute and storage infrastructure
    • Recommends, installs, configures and utilizes a wide variety of network management and support tools that contribute to the proactive management of the network
    • Successfully sets priorities, performs tasks in an orderly fashion, and meets time deadlines
    • Keeps scheduled appointments, reports for work on time and maintains good attendance with valid reasons for absences
    • Maintains personal appearance and conduct appropriate for a professional services environment at all times
    • Demonstrates good written and oral communications skills and communications effectively
    • Adjusts to changing priorities in a professional manner
    • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities
    • Maintains and updates technical knowledge and skills through professional affiliations, career development programs and professional reading
    • Generally remains calm and focused in pressure situations
    • Submits all required paperwork and reports accurately and on a timely basis
    • Operates well without specific direction and close supervision, given general guidelines for the position
  • Network Support:
    • Fulfills on-call duties for ITS emergencies outside of Firm business hours
    • Maintains awareness of all ITS problem situations and informs ITS management when necessary
    • Evaluates and recommends new software and network performance enhancements that will increase or improve the capabilities of the network in order to provide new levels of service to clients and end users in the office
