Position Overview:
  • To assist with genomic datasets. The client recently deployed a new platform that includes storage and processing for multiple data types (DNA sequencing, gene expression, imaging data, clinical data, etc), an R analysis environment, and a platform to publish self-service tools for Biologists and other scientists.
  • To use this platform effectively, need to import existing datasets from clinical trials, animal experiments, the literature, etc.
  • Need to expand the collection of self-service tools to provide access to these datasets.
 
Responsibilities:
  • The primary tasks for this position will include:
    • Examining and understanding existing datasets to prepare standardized sample annotations
    • Importing the existing data into our new platform and running processing pipelines
    • Running analyses in R such as differential expression and pathway analyses, then storing those results in the system
    • Working with bioinformaticians and biologists to design, code, support, and maintain self-service tools using RShiny
  • All roles related to the clinical and non-clinical development of competitive products and solutions.
  • Activities include, all aspects of research, technology development, product development, solution development and testing. Includes jobs which are not directly specialized in one of the other defined Research & Development job families or which are fully responsible for the whole functional area.
  • Impact: Impacts the results within the discipline with own contributions.
  • Provides input to the technical direction and operational decision making in the field of specialization.
  • Complexity: Solves complex problems based on analytical thought and complex judgement which requires in-depth knowledge and experience in own job-discipline and knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Accountability/ Independence: Accountable for the quality of on-going activities/processes. Works independently, receives minimal guidance.
  • Experience: Typically graduate background plus some professional experience in relevant disciplines or substantial hands-on experience during education.
  • Organization: Typically reports to a Manager role, Project Manager role for a defined period of time based on organizational set-up, typically no direct reports.
 
Qualifications:
  • BS degree with 8+ years experience, MS degree with 0-5 years experience or PHD
  • An ideal candidate has strong coding skills, an understanding of human molecular biology and immunology, and some background in data analytics.
  • Must be familiar with R and ideally at least one other programming language (e.g., Python, Perl or Java).
  • Experience with Rshiny or web app development is highly desirable.
  • Other useful skills include Git (or other version control systems), GitLab, and standard genomics analyses such as read alignment, differential expression, pathway analysis, and variant calling.
