Position Overview:
  • Will report to the Senior Director and will support the development of several instructional resources simultaneously.
  • As these projects will span various client’s courses in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), the Instructional Designer should be comfortable working with a variety of course content, though in-depth content knowledge is not required.
  • Partnering with internal video instruction and curricular publication teams, as well as external content creators, will need to ensure that the resources developed contain sound pedagogy and are written with the appropriate clarity and tone for high school students and/or teachers.
  • The work is fast-paced and iterative but has the potential to have a positive impact on customer’s and staff around the world.
 
Responsibilities:
  • The Instructional Designer will work to develop specific instructional resources together with the Senior Director. These projects may include student workbooks, science lab manuals, instructional activities, review videos, and lesson plans.
  • In supporting the development of any of these resources, the Instructional Designer will:
    • Create teacher- and/or student-facing content, aligned to the design specifications of the resource
    • Edit and proofread content provided by internal or external creators, suggesting applicable improvements related to content clarity and appropriateness for the intended audience
    • Collect and distill feedback from external teachers who pilot early versions of certain resources
    • Maintain documentation of project status and escalate risks and blockers as needed
    • Collaborate with the Director, Developmental Editing as needed
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Should have instructional design experience, including digital resource development, and have an adaptable skill set.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, such as (but not limited to) working as an instructional designer, content publisher, or high school teacher
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to proofread and edit accordingly, for print or video
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including high attention to detail and the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and using Internet applications, especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Open to on-the-job training and feedback from multiple collaborators
  • Interest in instructional design and supporting student learning
