Job Title: Oracle SQL Tuner - Engineering Support Location: Onsite position in Atlanta, GA Duration: W2 contract for 10 months with a posibility of extension *not for subcontracting or corp to corp*
SUMMARY/OVERVIEW: The L3/Engineering Support Oracle SQL Developer is responsible for supporting both development and L3 operational support efforts. This role will interface with Architecture, Development, QA, and Production teams to support the Oracle development involved in the development and testing lifecycle. Activities include diagnosis of optimal SQL performance and efficiency for the written application by Oracle, providing improved solutions for environments and other data design as it pertains to the client's portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with Engineering Support/L3 to diagnose operational issues.
Work with client's administrators to architect and design improved strategies regarding capacity optimization.
Develop required scripts to properly monitor and report error conditions.
Work with Engineering and Engineering Support/L3 to ensure proper anticipation and application of technology to meet software deployments and upgrades need.
Collaborate with engineering team/s to develop new proof of concepts on special assignments.
Make modifications and additions to the non-production environment as required to meet Engineering development needs.
Ability to bridge the gap between the RDBMS and Java software layer.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience developing in Oracle database environments.
Must be proficient in Oracle PL/SQL package design and tuning.
Must have strong SQL tuning skills in VLDB Oracle database environments.
Must be proficient in the development of functions, stored procedures and packages.
Must be proficient in development using external tables, bulk statement processing, dynamic statement execution, the use of bind variable and ref cursors, and PS/SQL object types.
Understanding how to leverage and review explain plans and utilizing optimizer hints.
Dealing with large volumes of data (millions/billions) and partitioned tables.
Strong physical and logical modeling a must.
Deep understanding of performance monitoring tools, AWR, ASH, etc.
Database design/implementation skills.
Desirable Technical Skills:
Experience with monitoring and performance tools (AWR, ASH, Toad etc).
Experience with large volume data extraction, transformation and loading logic and tools.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND TRAVEL:
Bachelor's degree in a related field required, unless there is significant, relevant work experience.
No supervisory responsibilities required for this position.
