Position Overview:
  • In this position, you will be the Company's sole in-house attorney and, along with your supporting staff, will provide oversight, direction and support in structuring, negotiating and advising on a wide variety of legal and business matters.
  • You will be a trusted business partner within the Company, regularly working across internal corporate functions, Publication, Sales and Marketing, Technology, Distribution and Finance, to strengthen our commitment to collaborative and solution oriented approaches.
  • You will have potential to be on the highest level of the Company's management team.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing and managing a wide variety of complex commercial contracts with customers and vendors, including master services agreements, data privacy, professional services, technology, content licensing, production and distribution, employment/independent contractor and other traditional and new media agreements to support our domestic and international business operations
  • Partnering with business owners and managers to identify and manage legal issues, assist in negotiation and resolution of business matters, and ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions
  • Working as the principal point of contact with external counsel
  • Developing and maintaining the Company's databases of contracts, third-party rights and permissions, and communicating contract alerts, operating practices and performance standards with appropriate stakeholders
  • Providing early and ongoing review of requests for proposals and bids, specifically as it relates to contractual requirements, federal, state and local guidelines, and required compliance documentation
  • Maintaining active trademarks and copyrights and serving as the primary contact in securing, registering and renewing trademarks and copyrights for the Company
  • Maintaining and updating Company contract forms and templates, and developing and improving workflows that facilitate efficient contract submission, review and approval processes
 
Qualifications:
  • JD degree and member of at least one US State Bar, preferably New York
  • 5+ years in the practice of law, including a broad range of experience in reviewing, drafting, negotiating and implementing commercial contracts
  • Experience with media licensing and intellectual property matters
  • Strong project management skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
