The contract underwriter is responsible for review and decision of mortgage insurance applications and compliance underwriting for acceptable risk to Arch MI and acceptability to Investors. The candidate will provide mortgage loan underwriting experience and has the ability to enforce corporate credit policy while maintaining strong client relationships is the primary focus of this position.

• Communicate closely with Lender Clients for guideline and process clarification in addition to submission status.
• Underwrite mortgage loan applications for acceptability and adherence to specific investor criteria and requirements. Compliance with Lender procedures and protocol is critical.
• Underwrite mortgage insurance application files for acceptable risk based on published guidelines and credit policy.
• Review submitted loan file data and documents for adherence to investor and lender policies or review scope
• Determine applicant credit worthiness by assessing financial situation & possible risk of default
• Perform analysis of credit, income, assets, & collateral
• Experience with income validation including personal and corporate/partnership/complex tax forms
• Able to identify misrepresentation, inconsistencies, and/or fraudulent activity from analyzing the loan documentation and transaction
• Review and identify red flags for potential fraud and misrepresentation
• Able to underwrite all loan types with minimal supervision
• Underwrite & analyze Investor / Agency guidelines to make sure transaction meets requirements
• Ability to document rationale for credit and collateral decisions
• Time management and organization skills to effectively prioritize multiple objectives and achieve volume and quality goals
• Capable of working under pressure from internal and external customers
• Ability to handle confidential material in a professional, highly ethical manner, meet deadlines, maintain a high degree of diplomacy and tact
• Maintain daily time entry and number of loans reviewed in system
• Other duties as assigned

• 3 to 5 years mortgage underwriting experience in the mortgage banking industry, with specific mortgage insurance industry experience a plus
• High degree of familiarity with GSE guidelines
• Excellent attention to detail
• Superior customer service skills
• Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite
• Experience underwriting imaged mortgage loan documents
• Strong analytical and decision making skills
• Outstanding communication skills
• Strong organizational skills

• BS in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Information Management, Statistics or related discipline
