Position Overview:
  • The position of an analytical bench scientist specialist is being floated in the Upstream Process Development (UPD) group.
  • The UPD group is responsible for developing robust processes for cell lines producing the protein therapeutics.
  • These are proteins that are chosen by research units as the candidate molecules for the treatment of various medical conditions spread across oncology, neuroscience, inflammation, and many others.
  • The processes developed by the UPD group are used in GMP manufacturing facilities to produce the molecules in large quantities for clinical and commercial needs.
  • Almost all the molecules currently produced employ Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells as the host cells.
  • One of the vital components of process development is controlling the metabolism of the cells in culture.
  • CHO cells consume large amounts of nutrients including amino acids and other metabolites to produce molecules of interest as well other byproducts.
  • Quantification of amino acids in the culture medium, protein concentration, as well as several other metabolites and byproducts are key to building robust processes and ensuring product quality.
  • The successful candidate will drive the analytical support to the team by performing analytical test on culture samples.
 
Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years experience hands on/ industry would be ideal but little less would also be considered.
  • Combo of academic and industry would be okay.
  • Have only academic lab that would be considered but must have hands on lab experience not just research.
  • UPLC experience, analyze amino assays
  • Data analysis is empower preferred or similar system is okay
  • Collect data into excel
  • Maintain lab equipment, collaborate with vendors to fix, troubleshoot, etc. Know where the issue is, understand fully so they explain where the break in process is.
  • Position will support R&D group and cell culture group (up stream team). This is where they will receive the samples to test, trouble shoot, provide results and data to these groups.
  • Maintain lab supplies as well.
